Question on Wikis

I'm thinking about developing a name I have through the implementation of a Wiki. It is on a subject matter that could use the involvement and assistance of a lare number of interested users to create a knowledgebase of sorts. But, I have to make money on the site and I have not seen any wikis that actually have advertising on them. Is this something that is frowned upon in Wikis?

By all means put them up, some people may tell you not too, but I have seen some of them with ads. If you want more info on this just google wiki adervertising, you will find some and some articles on the issue. ;)

I did the search as you suggested and really didn't come up with much except some conversations about how people don't like ads on wikis. I haven't come across a wiki yet that has a commercial feel to it.

In looking for wiki software that is created with accommodating ads in mind, I've yet to find one. I've seached for "commercial" wiki software but they all seem oriented to intranets.

I searched google on "add adsense to my wiki" and found this page at DanKohn.com for Mediawiki 1.4http://www.dankohn.com/archives/000338.html

Hopefully a similar search with the name of your preferred Wiki software would turn up results for it.

Good luck

if your over all wiki design is tasteful, people wont mind a few ads here and there....

it's a good one for the adsense and ypn because of it's so many vast contents.

I'd sure like to see at least just one Wiki that has a decent amount of advertising and looks better than the average Wiki. I've seen just Adense ads, but nothing more.
