Can you get them if you are doing government certifications?

I have a friend that runs several websites that have online schools dedicated which certify people to do things.

These schools are approved by the US government and also run in accordance with all the laws and mandates of various boards.

My questions is can my friend get a .EDU domain name? Their company is a non-profit one.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I just googled it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.edu

Starting on October 29, 2001, only post-secondary institutions and organizations that are accredited by an agency on the U.S. Department of Education's list of nationally recognized accrediting agencies are eligible to apply for a edu domain.[2] Most such agencies accredit only US institutions, so very few non-US institutions qualify, and edu remains almost exclusively a top-level domain of the United States.

What mis-chiff said PLUS it's looks to be possible to get -- or maybe I should say end up with -- an "early" EDU if you were to buy its entire "business" (can you say $$$$???). See this thread, http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/708726-edu-domains.html

In fact, NP'er "Uni" seems to have one of these situations up for sale here at this very moment, http://www.namepros.com/for-sale-advertising-board/716011-edu-domain-school-for-sale.html

.Edu domains depend upon the laws of that specific country as it differs a lot. So, the best way is to ask the registrar directly about the documents/certificates they require for registration.

Actually .edu domain gets more value from Google because they are trusty so that's why they are actually reserved for institutions only.
As Wendy quoted, your friend online school must be accredited to get it.

I am sure the ways of getting such domains for anyone. You just have to know where to ask. Despite of the forum is being domain oriented, here is the lower chance to find the answer.
