What would be the dividing line between registering a .pro domain or not? I know of a one-word noun (object) that has 48,000,000 Google results that is unregged. I'm just wondering whether it seems profitable or not.

Also, does anybody know of a .pro available list?

Thanks :)

If you can pay $100 off each year with your .pro. It is worth it as you can have a strong keyword.
But I don't know if encirca is doing a legit thing with .pro open registration. So risk is still out there.

Hmmm... it looks like they're also having a $49 special.
FYI, the word is 9-letters.

ovt=88,000
available extensions = .de and .at

Note: I double-checked, and the .de is taken (surprise)

If I were you I'd try for a shorter domain, for a mostly unknown extension 9 letters is a little bit long. Maybe you can snag a couple very short words that have good seach rankings.

I also think it may be a good thing to register a few available .pro and take advantage of the current promo. $49 is more affordable than the standard $99.

In spite of the fact .pro is restricted I believe the Encirca trick is safe. IMO the rules may also be relaxed in the future (after all they are effectively bypassed).
I also think it is best to register short, generic names and have a plan for development. Don't expect a fast sale. Right now it is hard to sell .pro.
In a few years maybe the TLD will be more in fashion.

Now I have to tell you Overture is not everything. I have names with high OVT but almost no traffic and if you rely on type-in .com is the way to go and not .pro
I also have premium .pro generics with miserable traffic so if you don't have a plan for use refrain from registering .pro unless you can afford the reg fee.

BTW how to redeem the promo with encirca ? You have to call them to get a promo code or what ?
[EDIT] It looks like the promo is only valid for 3rd level domains (ex: .eng.pro) :'(

the promo is for third level .pro, not .pro i.e. .eng.pro or .law.pro
unfortunately that is!!!
pricey game to stay in :)

HighSpeed.PRO

Scripts.PRO

Logos.PRO

Robotic.PRO

VideoGame.PRO

*All available last time I checked.

I have been tempted, but the combination of $99/year reg fee, and being a relatively unknown extension, has been what prevented me from jumping. I personally like the sound of .PRO and if the reg fee was less (like 1/2 = $50) I would have likely registered them.

I heard that the 49 special only available for 3rd level ones instead of 2nd level ones...

I suppose a couple billion google returns would be well over the dividing line? :)

If I told you I have 2 .pro premium keywords
1st keyword has 5 700 000 google results
2nd keyword has 23 000 000+ google results

Now the traffic
1st keyword has 20 hits / month
2nd keyword has 3 hits / month

Think twice before registering .pro :hehe:

The beauty of .pro is that it is "unknown". Pro's destiny is yet to be realized so there is that ability for one to get a decent name on the "cheap". Who here really thinks that this extension will be hidden from the public's eye forever?

For me, .pro is a **web services extension if I ever saw one! I own, www.resume.pro and www.calendar.pro These sites get very little hits. However what they lack for hits (right now) they more than make up for that ever so important, "legitimacy factor". This is key when you begin to spend real money on advertising your business.

**Read up on "web services". It's nothing new. However you will begin to hear a dull roar in the upcoming year, with a full drum beat by 2007.
