Tell me what y'all think about paintchairs.com - estibot gives it a score of $40. I also bought paintchair.com but that name doesn't seem to flow as well as paintchairs.com so i haven't developed paintchair.com yet.

I took some time to develop a few informational/parking pages - it would be much appreciated if anyone took a minute to take a look and give me any feedback.

The minisite is good. All depends on traffic+revenue with this domain name. Will getting it to the top in Google (which should not be hard, make sure you have H1 level keywords) result in revenue/traffic? If so, value goes up, if not, maybe mid $xx is a fair appraisal.

good luck with it!

Just checked out your minisite too, nice job there, looks attractive and full of useful info.

I like the fact too that you are differentiating between a name that rolls off the tongue easily and the other one which doesn't do so, quite as easily. No harm done though acquiring the extra name, in fact, it'll probaly only add value to your main name as it'll stop anyone else regging it.

In terms of valuation, in its present state, I'll say around $100-150 although if you develop this further, and as Estibot stated above, attract more traffic and revenue, it shouldn't be too long before you head into mid $xxx.

Certainly your market is big enough out there for this hobby activity, and too I'm sure quite a few countryside arts and crafts individuals have started small 'kitchen table' businesses based around this concept.

All told, could become a nice little niche market name.

Wish you all the very best with it.

Kindest regards.

Mark

Thanks for the feedback on the name and the site. I will try to add in the ability to make comments on the site so that people can periodically add fresh content. I was looking at Drupal, but I'm not sure it it's that easy to just take something like the ability to leave comments (on may main page about "How To Paint Chairs") and integrate it into my site. I don't want to do a complete redesign, I'm just looking for something simple that will make my small site slightly interactive.

Any ideas appreciated.

DomainGamer,

Rep plus a donation if you don't mind sharing how you create the search related links down the left side of your site. I can see they have your adsense ID attached to them. I'd like to do something similar on a few sites I have. Also, do you know if Google's ok with this technique?

It look like the side menu was created using Google Custom Search Engine. There is a setting to add custom links such as the one on the paintchairs site. I have a Google custom search engine setup, just haven't implemented it yet.

I was wondering about the same thing. It's kind of like your-own-adsense in a parking-page setting.

Custom Search Engine? Is this type of page within TOS?

google wants the user to search for things they type in themseleves. There is no "typing" with this.

The domain itself doesn't hold much value (there are many 'paint____' names available, including painttables.com, paintsofas.com, etc.). The value is in the development in this case, which would be based on the revenue it produces.

http://www.google.com/coop/cse/ Is where you sign up for the custom search engine. The ads on the search page your visitors receive are linked to your own adsense.

Looks like he may have setup a custom search engine (which allows adsense code) and then did a search on topic, then did a copy and paste of the search URL result. Don't know, just a guess.

I have started a thread on the Google custom search engine here I have also setup a test site where I will be experimenting with ways to use this tool at ihotfiles.com

Google Search Links

On my paintchairs.com site I listed key search terms on the left hand nav bar. For each of the search terms, I inserted a google search bar through my Adwords account and then searched for each of the terms I wanted to list. I then merely copied and pasted the results to each of the terms so that the user will be taken to Google search results.

I looked through Google AdWords TOS and found nothing that explicitly disallows this practice. That being said, I'm in no way trying to flaunt Google's rules so if anyone knows of any specific language Google has that doesn't allow this practice please point that out. The way I see it is that I'm in no way trying to be misleading to the end user, I'm actually facilitating their use of Google because I'm proving the user w/ similar searches (that the user may not have thought of) that may be helpful in their quest to paint chairs.

I'm not making any accusations, in fact, I think it's pretty smart how you did that. I don't know if it's against Google's TOS or not but if I had to bet, I'd say it is.

Here's why I think that. What you've done is basically create your own "text link ads." Except your text link ads don't look like ads, they look like a navigational menu without the usual "ads by Google" stamp.

I hope I'm wrong as I really think this would increase Ad revenue, not to mention the built in SEO benefits using the keywords of your choice.

With the custom search engine, you can actually put your own list of results that will appear when the search is done so I don't believe it would be any different (or wrong) to do it this way

This is another usful idea from Matt Cutts:

"The look and feel is also customizable. Search results can open up on google, or you can do an iframe to open results on your own site. The former option lets you pick some colors and a logo to customize; the latter option lets you fully integrate the search results into the look/feel of your site because you just wrap your preferred chrome around the iframe. If youโ€™re a power webmaster, youโ€™ll want to play with the iframe option."
