I had a nice php forum going, with plenty of mods. was hacked because it was 2 vershions behind, when i did update i lost all of my mods. is there a way to stop it from being hacked without updating it all the time, or a way to update without loosting the mods?

Also, what mods do you find help to get posts and users? I find quickreply realy helps but need some more.

Thanks

easy answer ...NO . phpbb always has flaws in it . I had a 6000 member forum I thought it was safe with everything I had and it still taken down. of course I had a full backup but it happened. After awhile I said forget it and took the site down for good.

Just started up a new one while back www.m4um.com 500+ members and growing.

I agree. It is a sad, but important, facet of site administration to keep software patched - especially when the patches are security-related. It's part of the site management game...

Every publicly visible site is a potential target, the content of your site (and nature of your community participants) will play a significant factor in how likely it is that someone will try and take your site down - or deface it.

Php is alway considered to have a security hole left
as i see many softwares at warez site to damage and spam the holy
h*ll out the forums. i also was using phpbb earlier but left when i saw
the security holes. and the best thing to do is alway upgrade to the latest version.

Do you have a link for these? I'm upgrading a board that has a few mods I can't afford to overwrite D-:

If your still wondering what SMF is, well it's a free bulletin board software just like phpBB but it's so much better in many many ways.
