PHP Chatroom

I know how to make PHP chatrooms good enough, but I don't like the way I have to make it refresh every 1, 2, 3, 4... how ever many seconds just to show the results. Does anybody know a way around using a Meta-Refresh?

Refresh not the main page, but a small invisible frame with a JavaScript which will insert new chat postings into the main window using DHTML trchniques. There's a script called dChat which uses this technique.

But using DHTML I'll lose most browsers. Some browsers don't support DHTML. And some support the same methods, only differantly coded.

You've got a really nice chat made in flash (requires php and mysql) at tufat.com
It's almost free... the guy charges $5 for a license

Yeh I use this flash chat at my site and I can say it is really good script and can easily combine with cms database such as a mambo if needed so you can use the same userdatabase.
