park is to linkin park, as parking is for domain parking. i go with the last.

I disagree- if I were registering a name to do with parking domains I think park is a shorter and more brandable/memorable word. I expect it is searched more too... would depend on other keywords for suitability though.
i.e. domainpark.com would be better than domainparking.com to me personally.

Depends on what the xx is ... different words work better in different combinations.
