I'm not in the "domain name" marketing business, so I'm getting all the information I can about how to "do it right." After some hunting, I've found this to be the most helpful place by far.

I recently came to acquire "OOP.COM" (along with 3 other guys), and we're looking to sell it. I'll be spending a GOOD deal of time on this site (very informative), but was just wondering if anyone had ballpark thoughts on how much it might sell for....

The domain name has an obvious eye appeal...it is just about a word "oop" (like oops's) and rolls off the tongue rather nice...I would put it up for auction on ebay with a reserve in the mid $X,XXX for a quick sale...
You have to decide the absolute lowest you will take for it and do not deviate from that...and you also have to realize that the domain name market as constant as it seems to most, is in fact VERY volatile...3 letter .com's are selling for record prices right now when just a year or so ago you could easily find these names dropping everyday and/or purchase them for a few hundred bucks a pop, hell I remember when you could still hand register hundreds of them, in my professional opinion I would cash-in now as soon as you can and strike while the iron is hot, I in fact will make you a standing offer of $2500 if you cannot sell it for more since I am almost certain I could...If you make anything over $5k then you have done well...this domain could possibly reach a high $x,xxx price but I would doubt much more since companies can easily buy a 2 letter .com/.net for that kind of money, however if you were to find the "perfect end-user" and they were motivated to purchase it and maybe approached you first and not vice versa then I could see a 5 figure sale being a remote possibility...shoot for $5-$10k and I think you will have a reasonable expectation for your domain, it is a very good one...and by the way..DO NOT TAKE LESS THAN $2500 NO MATTER WHAT, it is worth $2500 bare bones minimum wholesale to just about anyone here..especially me! :) Hope this helps....

:kickass: and keep up the good domains!

Thanks, Chris, for the offer and the encouragement. I get the same adrenaline rush here as I do during the last 3 seconds of an ebay auction that I really really want to win....

Try around $1-3k. I think that is reasonable. Wish you luck! *cheers*

sell to superdealchris at $2500. im warning ya. Either that or post it on greatdomains. Domains are like stocks, the value can go up as well as DOWN! Dont think youre gonna easily gonna get 5 figs by marketing it yourself (although its possible - i hasten to add). I work in marketing as a lot NP'rs here know and i would say that you are in the unfortunate (he says with glint of jealousy) position of being above the contact level that gives you credibility. What this means is that if you were selling lets say cheapfurniture.us and you mailed the small furniture stores and said you wanted $300 one would probably say "hey what the heck". But youre not. You would be contacting companies (in probably quite a cheesy way - no offence intended) and asking them to part with $$,$$$. NO CHANCE. This sort of sale would require nurturing and prospecting and if you dont have the skills base then dont bother.

The message : Dont hunt around for a buyer yourself for 2 months come back and find the traders have packed up and gone home!

OOP Order of the Phoenix

I'm not too fond of the books but I'm sure they will be fond of your domain . You should try selling it to the publisher :)
You could get a good $10,000 from them IMHO :)
Order of The Phoenix = OOTP

or

OP

But not OOP that doesn't make sense :)

As an acronym of Object Oriented Programming - a hot programming trend in the 90's - it's worth a lot developed.

Visually, as pure letters, it's not one of the best combinations. The double "O" restricts most real-life scenario uses.

In today's aftermarket though, 3-letter .com domain prices are on the rise. Expect $1,500 to $2,500 for this domain, depending on how fast you want to sell it.
