I 'm back from my China trip and I wanted to share highlights of it with you all.

As I travel to different countries for work I often come across many cultures and individuals. I am always interested to find out what their opinions are regarding domains and domain extensions.

This trip was no different. I came across a Chinese business man. We started to talk about domains and one of my first questions I asked him was, what is the infatuation of Chinese people with numbers particularly numeric domains?

He said Chinese love numbers. "We are very good in math". He also said it is easy to type and market.

He then said one of the most important values that numeric domains bring to the Chinese culture is that it gives them instant status.
I said how can a domain give you status? He reponded calmly... "look the lower the number the higher your status in China". He explained out of a billion and a half Chinese most want a numeric domain for their businesses, blogs and websites.

The lower the numbers like in three digits and 4 digits IN 1000s 2000s 3000s the higher their values are.

even with number 4 in it I aksed? He responded yes.

Numeric Domains give Chinese overnight status he said. By brandishing that numeric number on stationary, buildings and etc... people will know that the person who owns that DOT COM NUMERIC domain he is one out of 1 and half billion people. That brings power and status.

I said to him Jung: "I could 've registered for reg fee domains in three digits and 4 digits all day long in 2004 but no one cared".

It's a different world now. America in not the only "big dog" in the domain world and there are only 400 million of them online so far he said.

Pure nonsense :bah:

Like hell you could have regd 3 or 4 digits all day long in 2004

Coming from a Johnny-cum-lately with a join date in Jul 2012, you have zero credibility

Had you truly had the opportunity back in 2004 to "could've registered for reg fee domains in three digits and 4 digits all day long in 2004 but no one cared" you would have been grabbing everything

Truth is, even back then, there certainly was a strong market for 3 or 4 digit domains
And there were virtually none freely available for reg fee

Here's another truth:
Most of that 1.5 Billion barely have enough to eat...let alone knowing what a domain is...let alone wanting a low digit number.
You get the idea.
This is another domainer soundbite meme: the idea that "with population growth, x billions will be wanting a domain. Domain prices to rocket to da moon!"
Bwahahaha

Folks, the sh1t test which is very reliable, is to always judge a domainer by the quality (or lack of) domains they hold...

Well lookee here, peel back the kimono & you see a johnny-cum-lately shill holding a bunch of 4 digit .ME names for sale! :bah:

I was wondering about that. lol

But i do think someone peddling that 1.5 Billion Chinese are out looking for domains, sounds like spin city to me. Last time i read from CNN, it's more likely that these 1.5 Billion Chinese are working at places like Foxconn factories assembling Apple iPhones and iPads, and many are committing suicide out of depression for not being used to factory life. Ok, maybe not 1.5 Billion. But if there are that many domainers out there and all of them will send emails peddling their numeric domains, then may the great deity save us all.

Yeah in 2004 there were not NNN.com available and most NNNN.com were registered there were a few available, I regged 7599 and 7499.com I remember there were like 6 more I was looking at that I did not register.

http://www.namepros.com/domain-appraisals/55613-7599-com.html

Not all 1.5 billion Chinese are working in a factory.

Q. How big is the Chinese middle class?

A. It is estimated that it's more than 300 million -- already larger than the entire population of the United States.

About 25% of the population is middle class. It's about 50% of the urban population.

http://money.cnn.com/2012/04/25/news/economy/china-middle-class/index.htm

The Chinese who invest in domains already know the numeric market better than domainers in the west so there is no need to spam them.

If you have a good numeric.com go to 4.cn and you will probably do pretty well.

Firstly, it was more like Johnny-Bang-Early than Johnny-Cum-Late. Second I never talked about .me my emphasis were on .coms Thirdly by registering all day in 2004 3 digits and four digits I meant they could 've been acquired a lot cheaper. Forth and last why do you sound so hyper son?

My only emphasis is that Chinese value numerics higher than I thought extremely higher than I realized and they also like 4s.
