OK so after about a month of looking I can not decide. From low end talk and text only to 4G smartphones. One day from the next I change my mind or I read just one too many article or view one too many videos and poof! .... my mind changed again.

So if you could buy any phone you could what or which one would you buy? Why? What features do you like about the phone and or the service you are with. I'm also open to any service.

Here is a short list of what I'm looing at:

Samsung Galaxy S II Epic Touch
Samsung Galaxy s II Skyrocket
Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G (google)
iphone 4 and 4s
HTC Thunderbolt
HTC Droid Incredible 2
Dell Venue Pro

iPhone 4s, can't beat iPhones. I have a 3GS, love it. I am thinking about upgrading myself and it was out of the Galaxy SII and the 4s, but after reading reviews, the iPhone came out on top for me.

I would definitely go with a smartphone if its in your budget. Talk/text phones will be obsolete in a few years (imo).

iPhone 4S is a good, solid phone. Lots of apps to choose from and Apple's kept most of the really poor apps and malware out of the app store. Things work and run as expected for the most part. Wish the screen was a little larger, but it's OK. If I were making the choice again today, I'd buy it again.

On Android you can download apps from more sources (without rooting), but they aren't as well curated as iTunes (you have to jump through a lot more hoops to publish an app on iTunes, its relatively easy to put something on the Android market.) You'll run into apps which misbehave, have to be force-closed, sometimes hang up the device. Not all of them, you'll run into this more frequently than on the iphone.

HTC Thunderbolt - nice phone, VERY poor battery life.

I'm on Verizon - mostly because I'm grandfathered into the unlimited data plan ;). Lots of things I don't love about them - expensive, awful website if you want to change/view your account online, they charge you for everything - but their coverage is excellent.

If you get any Android phone on Verizon, you might want to be sure its rootable - otherwise you'll be stuck with all the bloatware Verizon installs.

(Speaking of which, there's now an untethered jailbreak available for the 4S, but I haven't tried it yet and probably won't bother unless I see something that really makes it worth the effort.)

I have and love the Samsung T401g, a non-contract phone from Net10 available for $25 and comes with a free 750 min card.. more than suits my needs.. BUT...

If I were to get a smartphone, it would be between the HTC Evo 3d and the iPhone. Siri is a powerful reason to get the iPhone but I'd lean toward the HTC because I think Android will eventually win out over iOS.

Why did I get the T401g? I like the idea of no contract, love the slide out keyboard for text.

What don't I like about smartphones? Mainly I have yet to see one that is bright enough to see if direct, bright sunlight (which is another good reason for a physical keyboard).

I am big Apple iPhone fan, but Samsung Galaxy 2 is really awesome and almost parallel to iPhone 4s.
Why it is better than iPhone, following are the reasons:
  • Cheaper than iPhone
  • Hundreds of Free apps
  • Faster than iPhone 4s
  • Beautiful look
What do you say about this?

When I was able to upgrade with Sprint I went with the iPhone 4S.
Why? Because it was so much work to put music on my EVO. Since I had a iPod Touch already when I added my iPhone to my iTunes account it now had all the music too.

Plus with the EVO I had to have a task killer or I wouldn't make it through 10 hours of work and still be able to call someone when I got off work.

Oh and Siri on iPhone 4S rocks and is a hoot when it doesn't get something right. And iCloud is nice too. I download an app, music, movie, take a pic or make a shot vid and as soon as I am near a WIFI its on my Laptop, iPhone, and/or my iPod Touch. No more having to hook cables up and doing each device one at a time.

Samsung Galaxy s II Skyrocket was almost the same as the first one, it has gprs and edge. Couldn't find the CPU for this model.

Yes .... agreed. This is the alternative. And the Skyrocket is very much like the touch accept Skyrocket has 1.5gb chip. Huge screen but if I'm not mistaken there is no flash support. No docking hardware, no mini HDMI out. And all plastic. :(

Hell every time I re-read gridly's post I'm back to aquare #1.

Has anyone used the DELL VENUE PRO....LOL I was looking at them and literally the phones were pulled from the site. NO more DELL phones! I even had one in my cart. What are the odds?
