Need info On database software.. Oddity etc

Hello, I'm planning on getting a site developed that would use a database to search for art related info ex: galleries, museums etc.
I was told oddity may be suitable but how are they on updating their files.Anyone have any opinions on this.
I'd be open to hear of another database software that would also be suitable.
