I have just put my first web site online.

I am looking for feedback about design and layout.

I have beed told that my chioce of fonts is not the best, pointer as to a better font would be cool.

the site is all coded by hand, writen in perl/CGI all the main info is held in a mysql database.

the site runs on openBSD from a 256Mb flash card.

Your first site? Great job! Layout is simple, only thing i would change is the banner; i could whip something simple up for you :)

Well u kinda did a good job if this is your first website. The banner sux , no offence.
You could use some graphics in your site .. now it's allmost graphic-free ( the only graphic u have is the banner )

you have a lot of free space there.. use it.

yes the banner sux.....

I am not into graphics and design and such like, i am a unix admin who can write perl:)

as for the comment about space and using it......

the main page that currently is mostly blank will be devoliped into a blog kind of think giving news about the site.

I am looking at getting google ads and a paypal donate button.

if some one wants to do a new banner that will fit the space and not clash with my other colour choice then that wold be very cool.

I know that I dont have much in the way of graphis but I dont think the site need graphics, I want to keep the pages very small as I am hosting up of dial-up. :(

Site appears to be just dead now... and what do you mean by "the site runs on openBSD from a 256Mb flash card."? That's rather interesting.

its up now, if it was down he probably turned off his server, it seeems like hes using his computer for the server because of hte no-ip address. Pretty interesting site, did people actually ask those questions?

Great for a first timer

i do agree on the banner, which i think its promising for a first timer.. :) right guys?

Anyways, the coding you have is great, just a little study on making layouts and design will be a great second start for you..

I like the portal like layout, but still needs some design tweaking. :)

Anyways, it is great start for a first timer.. Keep it up!! good work!!

so i wanted to get my site online, i had an old K6II 300MHz system just sitting around, 64Mb ram , network card and such like....

i built a openBSD 3.1 system on an old 2Gb hard drive and set it up to run with out X-windows support. this install came to about 180Mb

after that i installed mysql and some other bits.

deleted lots of un-needed crap form the system and got it down to 154Mb.

then i get a 256Mb compack flash card and an IDE to CF adaptor.

copied the system over to the CF card and pulled out the hard drive.

the CPU fan and heatsink was replace by a heatsink designed for a P4 2.4GHz, the fan removed.

the system runs with NO hard drive and no CPU fan, no power suppily fan, no moving parts.

silent.

no noise at all.

not keeping the flatmate awake at night :)

now i have the system setup how i need it the site should be online 24/7.

there might be an outage now and again as things change but the system is designed to have 24/7 up time.

Wow, cool setup, I have a K6 500mhz somewhere in my closet. Maybe if I can get some cash together I'll build me something similar :)

give me a week or two and i will give full setup info, photos and a bit of a how i did it guide.

Great job! Especially for a first site. I can make a banner for you, for free or a few NameBucks(PM me if you're interested). Fonts aren't too attractive, but they're okay.

Good Work!
