From Wikipedia:
"Micro-blogging is a form of blogging that allows users to write brief text updates (usually 140 characters) and publish them, either to be viewed by anyone or by a restricted group which can be chosen by the user. These messages can be submitted by a variety of means, including text messaging, instant messaging, email, MP3 or the web.

The most popular service is Twitter, which was launched in July 2006 and won the Web Award in the blog category at the 2007 South by Southwest Conference in Austin, Texas. The main competitor to Twitter has been Jaiku (although this has since been acquired by Google and closed public registrations).

Recently, however, many new services, with the same feature of micro-blogging are being born. Digg founder Kevin Rose, together with three other developers recently launched a service called Pownce, which integrates micro-blogging with file-sharing and event invitations..."

As I have many microblog(ging) sites myself I was interested in microblog.com
It was appraised at $ 9600
No need to discuss the value of those appraisals though,
but the domain is for sale with a minimum bid of $ 5000 at afternic.

Question is how is the realtion of the value microblog-microblogging or blog-blogging
I have no idea about appraisals.

I also get so many google email alerts about microblogging that it definitely is a hype, everybody just keeps wondering whether it will stay though, most people say yes as blogs wear them down, microblogging is simpler, more to the point.
also interesting:40-50 % of the people uses the hyphen , so what does this to the value of the hyphen form of the domain?

No offense, but I think micro-blogging is a stupid idea. Apparently there are a lot of people who use it though, so I can't discount it's appeal. However, I just think that blogs were intended to give people an outlet to share ideas and opinions, etc... Micro-blogging is rather mundane... You just post small updates throughout the day of what you are doing.... Who cares? Personally I don't care if one of my friends is brushing their teeth or watching a movie...

Anyway, nice domains assuming the term takes off. I'd prefer microblog.com or microblogs.com as hennie alluded to, but you should be able to make a nice site regardless and build value in the domain over time.

I'd probably try to find a nice Twitter type clone script and just make your own site.

Luckily, there's a few million people out there who disagree with you.

Some people use twitter and similar sites for mundane purposes, but then companies like Dell are using it for customer service, bloggers use it to direct traffic to their site, and news companies are using the service for breaking news updates, for example, twitter was very much used to report the China earthquakes a few months ago (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7402612.stm). I wouldn't call that "stupid," and to do so is a gross generalization.

That being said, I thank for your opinions. Right now, I'm leaning towards a directory of different services. Seems like the best idea right now.

sean, I just saw micro-blogging was obtained for 500 $ at sedo in april.
If it was at an auction, was there any competition for it?

as one of the uses for "purposefull" microblogging I could mention "live" microblogging during conferences/matches/auctions , where people just keep others informed who are not ppresent or even who are present and like to share opinions about what is going on.

I see a point in saying microblogging is"chitchat",but at the same time there are many blogers who use hundreds of words for things which can be said in 1-2 lines, especially when it concerns professional bloggers who are just trying to meet obligations for seo reasons/advertisers.

anyway lets try to get appraisal ideas? how to value seans domains? what is the value of generic domainnames which might just be a hype or might be there to stay and what about the hyphen, which normally decreases the value enormously, but now might have some value as many people use the hyphen in writing.

I was in that auction, but I wasn't the winner. I'm guessing the winner never paid up, because it went on auction again at Sedo about a month later, that's when I won it.

I'm guessing it might be hard to appraise a name like this right now. Microblogging has only picked up in the last few months. There were a few different ways to go with development for this name, and I was just looking for a couple opinions.
