Longtail Logic: The Data Behind Domain Length & Value

A new look at 574 domain sales from one day of market activity shows a clear picture of what sells and for how much. The numbers reveal the difference between high-price domains and high-volume ones:
CategoryCountPercentage of TotalAverage Sale Price
Single-Word6811.85%$6,346.01
Two-Word28249.13%$1,066.33
Three+ Word (Longtail)22439.02%$811.14

  • One-Word Domains Are King: They sell for much higher average prices than any others.
  • The Longtail Market is for Volume: Domains with 3+ words make up the biggest number of sales, but at lower prices.
  • .com is Everything: Nearly 80% of all sales were .com domains.
  • Not All AI Domains Are Valuable: Having "AI" in the name doesn't guarantee a high sale.
  • GoDaddy is Where Sales Happen: The vast majority of multi-word domain sales took place on this one platform.

The least misleading article I've seen so far of yours yet, so I guess that deserves a mention.

Domains with 3+ words make up the biggest number of sales, but at lower prices.

In your table above they made up the 2nd largest number of sales though.

In section 4, you wrote:

For sellers, where you list is as important as what you list.

Do you understand "who" exactly "lists" the domains in your analysis?

Thank you for looking at the table closely. That's the entire point of the analysis. No question of misleading to any one.

The data is from NameBio, which aggregates reported sales from marketplaces. The analysis is on where sales closed, which is the actionable insight for sellers looking for liquidity.

What are you going on about?

The table in your original post clearly shows.....bold = total sales volume....

CategoryCountPercentage of TotalAverage Sale Price

Single-Word6811.85%$6,346.01
Two-Word28249.13%$1,066.33
Three+ Word (Longtail)22439.02%$811.14

You or your Ai buddy then go on to say.....

"Domains with 3+ words make up the biggest number of sales, but at lower prices."

Check your AI responses before replying?.....Or get it to reply to this telling me I'm wrong and am clearly missing something....

Am I missing something or did I overlook some of the data you provided? It looks like your data is showing long-tails at 39% and two-words at 49%, so I'm not sure how the conclusion resulted in 39% being a larger share than 49%?

You just proved that you have absolutely NO understanding of what you're doing!

So, single word and two word domains make up 60.98% of the total sales. They make up 80.1% of the total dollars.

$431,528.68 (single word)
$300,705.06 (two word)
$181,695.36 (longtail)

Thanks for proving how dominant one and two word domains are!

And if all the domains were removed that were only sold because of their SEO properties, I bet it would be an even bigger margin.
