I like the top one, but the check mark still needs work. I don't like how curvy and knife-like it is, I don't feel it fits the rest of the logo, and I'm gonna make the site pretty "square". Also, could you try making the circle around it hollow, with the check mark still hanging out of it like you have it now?

The colors seem light to my taste. Could you get them a stronger like RegFee above. Like the .com part grey (not as noticable/distracting)

For the graphic would it be possible to get penguin sitting on a window?

I believe that we are free to use the standard penguin (http://www.isc.tamu.edu/~lewing/linux/) for whatever purpose we want. Other examples at http://www.linux.org/info/logos.html.

I realize that I have done a bad job of communicating because I don't know yet what I want. I am finishing setting up paypal so I can pay you for your work.

How about if I take a stab at the openning window concept to better refine what I want and then I can pay you some more to do your magic.
