Local driven app

Hopefully you guys will have some ideas. Here's the project:

Need to DYNAMICALLY load jpeg's and mpeg's on a LOCAL machine. With a little tinkering, I could probably figure out how to do this server-side, but this project demands everything done locally and Flash is out because it can't load mpeg's dynamically.

Any ideas? The idea behind this is to create a click through of local files based on an XML file that lists all of the files (movies and pictures) in the folder.

The list can be build with php (see opendir and readdir functions).

For .jpg is simple. For .mpg you'll have to use a third-party player (in my opinion).
