Hello,

What would you do if you find a domain name with the following characteristics:
- 6 letter dot com (CVCVCV.com, all premium letters, I guess).
- An english, dictionary word. It has several acceptions: Enginering, astronomical and pop culture, at least. It's in Wikipedia, Merrian Webster among other dictionarios/encyclopedias.
- 45.600 results at Google.
- 590 average searches, based on Google KeywordTool.
- DomainTools gives the following information about its history:

Registrar History: 3 registrars with 2 drops.
NS History: 21 changes on 11 unique name servers over 6 years.
IP History: 25 changes on 18 unique name servers over 4 years.
Whois History: 4 records have been archived since 2006-07-25.
- Last time it was dropped was on May 23, 2006 so it has been available for 2 and half year so far.
- I don´t not know how to check if it is blacklisted.

Basically, I gave you all the info but the domain... not sure if it could be deduced from this data... however, given these facts, would you give it a try or would you pass on it? I would appreciate the reasons of your suposed action.

Thanks in advance,

Quite honestly, just not enough information to really evaluate the domain. But, considering its been unregistered for 2+ years, suggests this name isnt in high demand. If its me? Im staying away.

I see... It means I'm doing my homework the wrong way, because I'm leaving some variables behind :(

What other variables would you need? In other words, let's say I just give you the domain name. What would you go for? What kind of data?

I imagine every real domainer develop a keen eye for domain names so he or she probably needs just the domain name in order to tell it apart or not. However, if he/she would need to perform an objetive, numeric-based decision... what he or she would look for?

I hope all this makes sense! :)

When I determine what is a good name, I pretend im the end-user. Why do I like it, why do I like it more then other names? Does it appeal to consumers, is it a made up name. Why this one vs another.

Your looking at this name as if its a reseller name, when it truely isnt. You can apply certain formulas to domains that have a reseller market like - LLL.coms or LLLL.coms. Certain characteristics make them more valuable between resellers. But with end-users, much of those variables are irrelevant. Pretend your the buyer.

Where did you find this information about the history of the domain.

Registrar History: 3 registrars with 2 drops.
NS History: 21 changes on 11 unique name servers over 6 years.
IP History: 25 changes on 18 unique name servers over 4 years.
Whois History: 4 records have been archived since 2006-07-25

bytheway, I was not buying this domain because no one was looking for this domain for the last 2 years which means you can stay with the domain another 2 years... :)
