Actually, you are making my point for me. The fact that it sold for $600 in a Domainer's marketplace indicates that it was bid on for its resale value, not what the end user would pay for the domain to actually put it to use.
Domainers are looking to multiply their investment in a domain by a factor of at least 2, and usually more. That is just good business risk management.
I personally think that the info is a successful domain and see it used all over. In relationship to .com and .net registrations it can be seen as a complete failure, but in relationship to the .US domain, I think it is highly successful.
I also consider it well known and is considered a recognizable extension. When I go to a .vg domain, I am much more wary of the services I found there.
I just sold a 7 character .com nickname for a city, with a hyphen, for $600.00. I am sure that I could sell Jay.Info for a couple grand, myself.
But you are right, that is just my opinion. Exactly what was asked for. The low-balling remark wasn't directed at anyone in particular, it was just a comment I made and I apologize if anyone think I meant it as offensive.
But in the long run, that is what I see here at NamePros, people indicating Domainer prices in their valuations, not offering what they might shoot for if they owned the domain and sold it themselves.
Afterall, the idea is to get a fair price and make some money. That's what appraisals are for, to gauge that opportunity. You don't like my opinion, no prob. It's just an opinion.

Great appraisal, but you forgot that it sold for some $600 recently in an auction where there were quite a few ppl going up and down about it.
Also to most it is just a name (a first name to be precise) and nothing more then that, and if I was to go after it, would only be for MY "FIRST NAME" SAKE.
And I aint really sure how you came up with that price range but two points:
1. It is a name, info (popular yes but still in .info) so mid $xxx to high $xxx is the max someone would pay for IMO keeping the extension .info in mind (by this I mean I dont see it very very popular anywhere)
2. Important: It sold for mid $xxx figure in a public auction at one of the popular domain auction house. With that I think name got it's fair value.
Personally speaking, since my first name is Jay as well, I would have stopped bidding on it after $500 mark cuz there is not much value for me to be spending that kind of money on it (where I cant earn my investment back). Also, when I have myfirst&lastname.com (note that it's a .COM)
Everyone is putting their opinion upfront on the table as requested by OP, so you cant say they are low-balling it, maybe everyone can pounce back and say you're high-balling it for odd reason.
