Javascript question

Is it possible to display an image using Javascrips? Is it possible to use several images in an array? And one last question, if it is possible to place images using Javascripts, can they be altered with CSS?

What i'm trying to do is change images, based on the users input upon entering the site. My problem is I can't figure out how to incorporate images into javascripts, so I can set them as variables.
