yeah i like ipb but now that it's not free... vb was my paid favorite and i guess it still is cus i don't like ipb.. now that you have to pay for it... Phpbb... don't like it... maybe with the new version it'll be better. . .

You are all understandibly saying vb, but lets not forget the crucial factor, phpBB is FREE. VB will set you back $160! There are also plenty off add ons for phpBB. For these reasons i would choose phpBB as it is not that far behind vb in my opinion and it is $160 less! No brainer really, although i must admit i have used vb for a couple of forums.

ok im afraid what you said is completely void of reasonable argument. The forum that is provided by vb is top quality, however is not free therefore puts it out of the market for some people. phpBB is FREE and is therefore aimed at the market who cannot or will not spend that amount of money on there forum. In my experience phpBB is more than adequate, it does not have the mass of features the vb has however for its price i wouldn't expect it to. To say that (what i imagine) a forum provider to millions of sites sucks is ignorant of this important fact.

You may not think it is as good as vb, that is your opinion and i respect it and it may even be the case that it is not as good, but it is aimed at a different market therefore i do not think you can simply compare them on the basis of which one is better.

VB the easiest to use for me.

Put it this way, I wouldn't pay the $160 for vB until my site has made at least $200 in ad revenue.

phpBB is good but limited in functionality compared to the others but it is also free.

If you don't want to pay then give it a try :). There are plenty of mods and hacks to add features you might need.

I can do ANYTHING to phpbb that VB or IPB does. Most of the mods have already been written and are freely available. If I had to buy a license everytime I wanted to pop up a forums I would spend $500 a month on fees. Screw that. I have my own installation of phpbb I have created full of the exact mods I want and it don't cost me a DIME.

PHPBB Skinning is SUPER easy. You just don't do it in the database.

PHPBB Support is pretty good..the site is loaded with useful info and people who help on a regular basis. I have never had a serious problem with a mod.

There are 2 reasons I would go to VB on a site. One....if the site had more than 20k members since current phpbb needs a lot of tweaking to optimize the queries. I know this first hand and we switched the site to VB and it worked very well for us. Two...if I needed my site to be more secure. VB doesn't get exploited like phpbb does. It can be a hassle updating your phpbb everytime a new exploit pops up. I am hoping both these issues are corrected with the new version.

My vote: PHPBB

1. Free
2. Easily moded
3. Lots of free templates
4. Easy to use admin control panel

my vote is for vbulletin - I'd go for IPB if licenses were cheaper than vbulletins - but you can't beat the options and usability

I prefer vBulletin because of it's advanced features.

I'd say IPB, then vB.

PhpBB because it is free.

I have used all three. Firstly IPB, but that went paid and the AWFUL rude Staff make me want to vomit. Then I started a new forum and paid for vB. I wouldnt go back. Why change back to IPB with its poor service and unpredictable TOS.

I have used phpBB on smaller sites as an extra, but wouldnt use phpBB as a serious forum at all.

Seriously, how many times do these types of threads have to be posted.. I guess some people haven't heard of a "search feature" It's there for a reason ;) One of them being to save time and prevent the repetition of posts asking the same questions over and over again..

It has come to the point in which users take advantage of these types of posts and reply to earn themselves an easy 2 NP$
