Image and text in cells

Forgive me if this is basic. Am designing a site using Macromedia MX and have seen many sites that appear to have a background image in a cell but also text on top, some as links some not. Could someone advise how to do this? So far I have been creating graphics with text but this I am sure isn't the right way to do it.

Thanks in advance

Tim

all you need to do is set the image in the table cell to background and then put whatever content you want in the cell. also, what do you mean Macromedia MX? Macromedia Fireworks MX?

[edit]too slow, D@Z beat me to it :)[/edit]
I'm not sure how to do it in Macromedia MX, but you should be able to set a background image property for a <div> or table <td> or other containers, and then just add text and other html on top.

And you're right, creating graphics with the text on them isn't a very good way to do it, especially if you want search engines to crawl your site effectively.
