How does this affiliate thing work

I keep seeing affiliate here and other forums. I am underthe impression that you cant post in forums, so how are you supposed to post. I see people do this in the signature and wonder how they do it or get a way with it. Also I was wondering what link cloaking is. It seems hard to be an affiliate and make it work.

Some forums allow affiliate code in the sigs, but most do not.

Affiliate marketing is normally done on a website or sites. Also, you can earn money for affiliate commissions via Squidoo and Hub Pages.
