After a few hours of downtime yesterday, Microsoft brings forth the new WindowsLive Mail Beta.

List of new features here: http://join.msn.com/mailbeta/features

Fortunately I am one of the beta testers :)

I didn't sign up, I was picked as one of the long time hotmail users (been using it since I was 12, my first hotmail account :D. I am about to turn 19 now). I found a button in the header saying join the Mail Beta now. Actually it is still lacking many features which I guess will be added sooner or later but I guess it's a good move overall!

Actually we must say thanks to GMAIL that started with 2GB space for mails and a interactive ajax based user interface. Now everyone is following the trend and we, the users, are getting all the benefits.

It's good overall, the most remarkable thing is that u can drag-drop mails around folders, it has a reading pane to preview mails, u can select multiple mails like files and RIGHT CLICK in the browser to delete, move and do other management tasks.
Only bad thing is that it fully works only in Internet Explorer and I am addicted to Firefox/Flock.

First off I don't think hotmail is that great. What is Microsoft going to do to make it any better? Will they upload more errors? I am kind of clueless as to why Microsoft is attempting this. Do they have to have their hands on everything? Can someone please explain?

Hotmail has been around for VERY long now and I really think they do deserve to stay around. Sure the current Hotmail interface is all patched up as it is now, that's what microsoft have been doing all the time, patching up the holes ever since it came into existance. But lets face it, no system running at such a large scale can be perfect. And now that they are re-creating the whole user interface from scratch is a good sign. Hopefully less issues this time!

I just think that all Microsoft stuff is a little on the not so efficient side. I know I would rather use Yahoo! Mail then Hotmail.

http://www.live.com is the saddest attempt that I've ever seen Microsoft make to compete against google. The layout is tacky, and it's much slower than google. And whatever happened to the days of Microsoft developing software? lol. They just acquired to new companies today, FolderShare, and media-streams.com. I can't believed the world's dominating software company created something that crappy! Microsoft should just stick to operating systems, and stay away from the internet search industry. :hehe:
