Host and domain question

Can I use a free host, but buy a domain for my website? I don't want to pay for a host not unless my site gets traffic so till then I want to use space and bandwidth from a free host? Is this possible?

Depends on the free host usualy yes. Look and see if domains are included. Most free hosts (from my experience) put a require ment of one or two domains so you wont be able to host millions of domains and profit after there bandwidth. Also they may require you to post on there forums or place ads on your site which wastes alot of your time you may always want to consiter paid hosting its not that expensive.

well if you buy your domains at godaddy, they have a free hosting.. but there will be ads at the top of every page.. but its free.

You would have to ask your new host if you can use your own registered domain name with their hosting. If they do allow this, they will give you nameserver info. You would then go into your domain at godaddy and set the nameservers to whatever your host gave you. Then you will have to wait a short period of time while the domain resolves to the new nameservers you have set.

You can have (allowed) to have domain nave and web hosting account from different service providers. That is normal situation.

Make sure that domain name details kept as secrete. Do not provide much information to the web hosting provider even to the free web hosting provider

Domain name is more then enough for web hosting account to start working

You even can do the opposite: to buy hosting and get a domain name for free. There are many companies offering this service. The most famous is marblehost.com.
