A federal minimum wage was first set in 1938. The graph shows nominal (blue diamonds) and real (red squares) minimum wage values. Nominal values range from $0.25/hr in 1938 to the current $5.15/hr. The graph adjusts these wages to 2006 dollars (red squares) to show the real value of the minimum wage. Calculated in real 2006 dollars, the 1968 minimum wage was the highest at $9.27.

Washington has the highest minimum wage in the country at $7.93 as of January 1, 2007.

Missouri's minimum was was recently raised to $6.50 and already businesses are laying off workers and cutting corners because of it.

Minimum wage in the UK is going to be £5.52 an hour from October 2007. Its £5.35 an hour currently.

Considering the current strong Pound, which is about $2 to £1, thats around $11 an hour :D

If you live in London, you get slightly more too.

Everything is expensive over here!

Average house is £200,000 :(

The British minimum wage at the moment is £5.52 - which is about $11 per hour :) (As Scott said). However the housing market is booming, and prices are rising, hence this isn't anything majorly high/special.

Florida is currently 6.67 per hour. Pretty sad I would say

Ours is $5.15 here in SC. Most everyone is paid higher - I'd say more like $7.50-$8.00, but $5.15 is nothing to live on by any stretch of the imagination.

Yep :( The average is about £200k (so $400,000) now.. or coming up to that. And it's not slowing down yet either (despite the interest rate rises). I'll hate to see things in a few year's time.

Not really, it's pretty high compared to most US states. It's about $7.25 USD

It's around £5-6 here, so that's roughly $10/12

I've hardly ever heard of anyone being paid under about $7.50/hour around my area. Some workers who receive tips or commission may earn slightly lower than $7.50/hour, but I've even heard McDonalds is having to offer pay up to $9/hour just to get workers...

No minimum wage here in Hong Kong...KFC workers have pretty much the lowest wage amongst the fast food industry, about HK$16 /hour, that's approximately US$2.

The rough thing about minimum wage is that rarely does one get 40 hours and or tips. One would need 2 plus jobs to be able to pay for everyday items including rent etc. How many people do you know live on their own and get paid minimum wage? I am sure a small handful. Businesses and governh=ment need to give some to help out with Cost of living. I am sure it affects businesses.

But I know for most minimum wage workers in California is $7.50.
