Help interpreting web hit statistics

I don’t understand the statistics reported by Webalizer for my sites.

What is the difference in the report for hits, files, pages, and visits?

Actually, I think I understand files and pages, but hits and visits don’t make sense to me.

For example, the report says I’m getting an average of 8 visits a day and 67 hits a day.

Can anybody help me understand what this means?
