Google Adwords search volume question...

I'm using Google Adwords' Keyword Tool External. I have a lot of names that get decent search volume in the "Approx Avg Search Volume" column (like 10,000 - 15,000 for "exact search") but get "Not enough data" in the "Approx Search Volume: November" column. Anybody know why it does this or what it means?

I don't think the "Avg" search volume is a fluke because the same domains also get decent OVT (~2500) as well as Wordtracker (~80) and Keyword Discovery (~80).

I don't think I've ever seen it be more than 2.5k average and get no data for the current month. Can you give an example?

I have seen this a lot. It is simply a case of a name with search data, but no Google Trends data. The KD number should be 30 times the WT number for them to match, the closer they match the better. Make sure you set your Google search on "Phrase" or "Exact" rather than "broad" to get a more accurate reading, if you don't already. It just seems like some keywords have good trends and low search numbers and others have high search numbers but no trends. I am not surw which is better, but it is better to have data in all sections.

For example, "201 area code" or "973 area code". I get 12,100 avg search for both, but no monthly search.

Not sure what you mean ... "no Google Trends data". Can you explain that?

I rarely if ever get KD that is 30 times WT. I know KD is monthly search and
WT is daily, but that isn't typically reflected in the results I get. I would say KD is usually 5 to 10 times WT (tho not in the example above). I assumed this was due to the different databases each uses - and the seemingly large margin of error for these tools.

A lot of my searches end up with a KD number about 30 times as much as the WT. If the WT number is higher, I take that as a bad sign (I do prefer KD if I had to choose one).

Oops, I was thinking of the wrong part of adwords :p It serves me right for answering based on memory instead of by checking the adwords page  I thought you were referring to there being lots of searches, but no chart, which I see more and more and always annoys me. Sorry about the mixup.

I think that the examples you gave are just cases of missing data in the Google system. They do a good job tracking most things, but there are instances where any one of the keyword tools shows wierd discrepencies.

These two links provide some info about the search numbers:

That's probably all it is ... just makes me nervous not knowing for sure.

I've noticed that with some - like the area code ones above (I have a bunch of those) - it doesn't matter what month it is. It never shows any data in the Monthly column ... though the AVG search volume remains the same.

I can't figure out that "Not enough data" thing either, but I can say that I have bought domains with that statement that were real winners in parking.

I just bought one generic "wig" domain, that has 5,500 Approximate Average Search Volume and Not Enough Data for November, but it is doing about $1.50 a day.

Well that's encouraging...

Guess I should stop asking questions and get mine optimized! :)
