Galleries - Opening Window Design

Web design guru's: Is there a way I can set my website up so that when a gallery thumbnail is selected (larger image linked to it) I have control over the look of the window that opens with the linked image. The minimum that I hope to achieve is controlling the color of the background or have it automatically size according to the image. The best would be if I could set up something to give some information about the image, without writing a htm page for each image. Is there a way to do this, if by an extension for Dreamweaver please provide name and if you have it, location. Thanks in advance!

Mike thanks for the reply. Quick question since I am not a webpage developer, is this javascript what controls the opening windows display?

Well, if you are working with PHP there's a way to do this all on the fly, depending on the dimensions of the photo.

There is probably a Javascript version of that as well that is similar.
