The problem with .re is the restrictions. AFAIK it's available to local entities only and there must be roughly 2000 .re registered.
Other than that, it's a domain hack, good luck with that

Reunion Island is a French Island located in Indian Ocean within European community but not in European VAT area (Schengen), there are about 800 000 peoples living in Reunion.

I don't know how many .re domain are registered but I think it's about 5000 ; I use this technique for estimation; If on Google you search , site:.re , you have 8 480 000 result, if you search , site:.fr, you have 2 510 000 000 result. that mean 296 ratio less.
because the number of .fr domain is public information from AFNIC (September 18, 2009 : 1500 000 domain, the 2510 000 000 / 296 I find =5000 it's just estimation I hope it's next to reality ?

Regarding "problem", yes the owner of .re domain MUST be
1/ coorporate located in Reunion Island
or
2/ personal located in Reunion with a French trade Mark.

BUT from owner you can get a perpetual private licence of use (by a private contract), that mean:
- owner of domain no change,
-client of owner buy only the perpetual right of use it.

Nothing wrong with AFNIC registry with that. It's just a king of local service/trustee that suit to legal & naming policy regulation.
This is very current trustee service on .fr but not so much in use for .re (both dot are from AFNIC)

On past, a juridical battle between AFNIC and EURODNS (many trademark infringement,...) AFNIC and judge say nothing wrong regarding trustee service it was used for .fr, in fact AFNIC policy say they only know the registered owner of domain as the only legal responsible in any case.

And the restrictions,I just dont see any value.

Not sure about the implications but I think that if you provide a trustee service it will still be a private arrangement that is not endorsed by Afnic. It also means that you will be the legal owner of the domain and you would be help accountable for anything illegal (spam or TM infringement for example).

Anyway I don't think domain hacks are good investments and those who are into that type of domain usually prefer TLDs with fewer restrictions. Good luck

sdsinc, you're right, the private professional contract I can do " a licence of use for freewa.re" is 5 pages long (it’ usual for this king of contract), some things like

- gambling, lottery, reverse bidding auction, pornography, exaltation of violence, or support or glorify terrorism or racism activities
- No illegal activity and no content that violate the French law or violate the law of any country where the customers/users of the web site are targeted or Emails are send.
...... spam are banned.

Because all the legal/direct responsibility of edited content is only for the owner of domain not for the licensee customer. Even if on contract owner can ask money compensation for any legal/third part action regarding content of website or sended Email, in fact third part or regulation actor go direct to owner. In shush case licensee customer can choice defend the domain (licensee must do a cash deposit to the owner for covering defence fee) or don't, that mean owner can stop access to service or cancel the domain.

MasterOfMyDomains, technically reg fee are 6,50 Euros / year for .re with my registrar.
for freewa.re or other name like this a have in portfolio (not all are hacked domains), 2 possibility for my customer:

1/ setup the licence of use for freewa.re 1000 Euros onetime fee (open to negotiation) + each 12 month 6,50 Euros
or
2/ perpetual licence of use for freewa.re : 200 Euros by year (shortly open to negotiation)

no other fee to pay for the exclusive right use

The Customer shall have the exclusive right to use the Domain Name for any lawful purpose including any of the following:

Customer may select any name server

Customer may select any hosting service.

Customer may select any E-Mail service.

At the time of purchase the customer may choose (choice 1) to use their own name servers or (choice 2) to use URL forwarding and/or E-Mail forwarding provide through Domain Distributors, included at no additional charge with the exclusive right to use the Domain Name purchased.

In case client want custom domain not ever registered, price of licence is very less than above price they are forever registered domains, it's 59 Euros / year please PM nothing more to pay.
Custom Domain must be approved before for check there are no infringement on trade mark or naming policy.

If a licensee customer want to sell to other his right of use after domain be valuate, this is possible, Owner have to check new licensee, and I ask 10% off the sale.

Because would not hurt any rules of this forum, I preffer to close the theard, and do apologise if it was not at the good place.
