i got confirmation mail in 2-3seconds.
and ofcourse there is onemore site offering free email with 1GB space,
the wellknown google's gmail.com
but its in beta version now,
iam eagirly waiting for it.

i have not yet started to use their service actively. So i cant comment on their effectiveness
