flash mx + preloaders

Hey everyone,
greetings from Australia. I'm fairly new to web design and have thrown myself in the deep end with flashmx.I've built a movie and optimised it and am now trying to build a preloader for it.
I got the preloader to work o.k. but do you think I can get it to work with my movie (no way) every time I try to run them together the movie begins playing and every couple of frames I get the preloader coming through a frame at a time.I've rechecked the action script about ten times but it still keeps doing the same thing.
Can some one out there please help me.
