are you talking about designing sites that use px values eg:

Code:
<table width="506">...

or percentage values eg:

Code:
<table width="100%">...

otherwise, I don't understand what you are talking about. :hehe:

He is saying what is better:

A "fixed" design meaning that you set the width of the main content table in pixels. For example, you may have a central coloumn of 700pixels. Ex. www.nsmaths.co.uk

OR

A "fluid" design meaning one that is set in percent values. Ex. www.rednerve.com.

That help you PoorDoggie?

Oh, and for the topic, a fixed design is easier to do, but a fluid one is more effective. It's six of one, half-a-dozen of the other really. All depends on the site really.

I think it's really just personal preference. There are advantages and disadvantages to both.

from experience, most like the fixed design due to one major factor. "content"

if you say, have a site with a few paragrahs of text on the main page, and its a fluid design, those with high resolution screens/browsers may see a couple of lines of text ..doesnt look like a full site unless you pack it with images.

on the other hand, the same content in a fixed design will fill out the page/site a lot better.

so basically , design around the content in a lot of cases..

hopes this makes some sense.

I prefer fixed.

Why? With fluid design you can't control your layout. If you have more then one column, you end up with ugly empty areas and wasted space.
