Does anyone know how to make an extension appear in the status bar? (Example)

I just want to have it so that when you click the icon, it opens a little menu like in the picture with a bunch of javascript-link-type-things.

I've never made an extension before, but I assume it wouldn't be too hard because what I want to do is mostly javascript. >_>

If never created an extension before then there is a learning curve. JavaScript is not the only thing you will need to learn. You will have to learn xml, xul, and the chrome system. It took me two months to finally figure out how to do something with an extension that was rather simple, a tool bar to show links in a menu system.

That's true. There is a good tutorial at http://www.rietta.com/firefox/Tutorial/overview.html with examples.
