I jumped into the New Gtlds with about ten regs early on in the peace, however recently when it came around to renewal I noticed some of the pricing went up. That was enough for me to pull the plug and decide to stick with what I know and like, Dot Com (plus I regularly see ads for Hotels.com and Booking, com on the Tv) So for me it is the industry standard. However as a domainer like others here, I would like to do some form of sales platform or the like. Which means I have decided to keep just one of my New Gtlds ..... a Dot Domains name.
~
Although I have been in two minds whether it would be worth keeping without the .com equivalent. The choice has been fifty-fifty ?? But last night about midnight after some drinks I decided to have another look at this name and think about it and my options some more. Low and behold ...... there it was, the Dot Com equivalent just sitting there. I can't remember but I was sure the previous registrant had it advertised for a few thousand and at the time when I last looked and the spare funds were not there for me to try and buy it.
~
So in a world of don't drink and domain I think I did ok, but more to the point I am wondering how many folk have the .com equivalent to their New Gtld and would you have grabbed the New Gtld if you could not have got the .com equivalent. For me it means I will only have one New Gtld after the rest drop soon but I am happy to be in this situation, which is hopefully to be well covered in a development/branding aspect. What's you take on having both .com and the New Gtld

As far as I am aware. New GTLD prices haven't gone up, per se. It's just that they were offered at big discounts to get you hooked. You just decided to unhook yourself :)

I have a couple of gTLDs with the matching .com

Last year I got a .whatever that matched my .CA domain (The .com was for sale for $1500)
This Spring I started developing the .whatever & Lo and Behold the 12 year old .com showed up at Namejet for $69

Far as I am concerned there is no equivalent to a dot com besides the dot com itself.

Happy to agree but I did want just one brandable in the New Gtld space and yes without the .com you are pushing everything uphill

That is very admirable and as far as brandables for a business aspect very good idea to have the other domain as well.

I always like to cover my bases with the domains when I can (especially mine that I develop out), so if I can, I try to grab both the singular and plural, and if available, the related gTLD. So for my domain sites I do have both the .com, and the .domains. I don't like to leave open a name that someone else could reg and develop out and inadvertently become my traffic competitor. I just picked up a nice .domains domain recently, and now the task is to 'try' to get the .com version to it.

Yep, must admit I am relieved to have the .com and I do wish you good luck acquiring the .com, I never made an offer on the one I wanted so I think the owner had reached the end of his "holding phase" and let it drop. Good chance most folk who hold a domain orientated name have a good knowledge of domaining.
