Ok a couple of things... Sex.com, the actual one, is like the one of most expensive domain of all time, somewhere around the top ten at around $10m+. Anyone looking at sedo, will not be on the site through searching the actual domain, so they have seen it via sedo, so they must have some interest in domains. And the fact that they are about to pay $5k, they must have some level of interest in domains as $5k is to most a lot of money, so whilst I strongly believe there is a lot of stupid and / or ignorant people, you know you are not getting something worth millions for thousands.

The reality is, as crap as the name may be, it probably still has some value on the basis it looks like sex.com! So search engine advertising, banner adverts etc, where the "customer" clicks as opposed to types in, will do well. And the porn industry is big on banners, and something that looks like sex.com will for sure have a high click through rate. For someone in that industry, it will have value.

It's an industry which has massive spend on banner advertising, FACT!! My opinion, and it's a fair one, is the CTR for a site that looks like it's a trusted popular "sex.com" will be higher than most. How on earth do you think that has zero value.

Domains don't have capital letters etc as you know but the L appears like capital i and people nowadays click on links more and more etc

If a person typed it in they wouldnt find the domain but if it was optimised it people would click on the link more often than not

yes but even if people are more likely to click they will never come back again to the website!! either they view strange code like xn--dr4r5r.com or they view sex.com. In the first case they will not remember and in the second case they will go to the real sex.com

i guess Sedo is making quite a bit of money from these fake IDN sales. when a newcomer views these they will realise that something can not be right with but they still might think if sex.com is worth $13 million, this one must be at least worth 10k or so.

then they end up paying $xxxx for a domain that will never sell except to a greater fool.

sedo has been accepting these auctions for many many years.

Many people use the actual word with a 5 at the front of ex instead of an S and with a 5 at the front and a y on the end in their online profiles and it would seem many prefer using the 5 instead of an S because if you had to put a letter in front of ex the mind would only put an S or a 5 usually

Its worth what it sold for all day long and should the sale be contested the media attention it would attract would be worth far more than the price of the domain

Irrespective of what people say the "resale" value is, you can make money off that domain all day long! Very simple development (if you don't already have a site that is), spend a bit of money on real cool banners and your in. Good luck!
