Is it better to buy the spanish word in a .es or the english word in a .es?

I would always go for keywords that match the TLD. English keywords are fine if they are very common and part of everyday's local language, like job news free etc.
Also not everybody has a good command of the English language in Spain...

Thank you. So if there was a .net available in the 'spanish word' and a .es available in the same word, would you go with the .es over the .net? Or the .net over the .es?

I would most definitely take the dot net, Over the dot es.

I would say it depends on the target :)
Go for .es if you cater to Spanish visitors.
.com/.net if you need something more global.
