What do you think it might be worth?

I know the term as dropcatching and not as dropsnapping, I don't understand these appraisals when there is a million dollar industry revolving around dropcatching domains, in my opinion this is definitely low $xx,xxx and not low $x,xxx. The whole discrimination between developed and undeveloped is imo redundant in this case, you make that distinction รญf and only if the name does not directly relate to a specific market and you certainly make that distinction if there's no relation to any market. This name is as clear cut as they come, low $xx,xxx undeveloped and the sky is the limit if you develop it properly. Developing a portal site for drop catchers seems the most obvious approach, I would not just use commission sites for this, a direct approach seems warranted given the high potential.

There is too much competition in the expiring name market, who would bother trying when there is snapnames, clubdrop, pool etc etc

That is a big reason why I pulled out of talks for now on the domain name. I do think it could be worth a lot more and the people I have talked to do not want to go higher on it. So it looks like I will be hanging onto it for awhile longer it seems..

I thank all of you for your responses it helps me a lot and if I had np bucks I would send you guys some =)

I would sell it then use that money to buy a better domain.

Great name! Because of the obvious success of snapnames and others, you can bet more services are being considered...and you have just the domain for them. So many dropped names...so many deals with registrars that have first shot at them, and so much money to be made.

$xx,xxx for sure if you are willing to wait for the next service looking for the perfect name.

Yeah, I like the name, too.

I own:

dropcatching.net (love the 'net' for this one w/ the obvious visual!)
dropcatch.org
dropcatch.info

so I will be watching yours w/ interest!

Yeah I saw a few of them were open but I figured the more people with them would help more then hurt the value of the top level one.

I have PreNameDrop.com and hope that this will be attractive to a end user also, My guess Mid XXXX undeveloped.

Would anybody be able to suggest a place I could use to sale this domain name?

I tried one service without any luck.

Thanks,

Thats so great.
Fishing, yo-yos, poker, wrestling, fighting.
So many possibilities.
I would say mid xxxx undeveloped, but if you develop it, boom. That is a great domain, great to spread by word of mouth. A great domain for teenage boys to tell their friends.
Nice!

After reading this thread, I'm not sure what you are expecting to get for it $ wise. The problem here is that it isn't 'the best' generic domain, so having expectations of 5 figures here I think would be off the mark. Is it brandable? Sure. It is possible someone interested in developing a drop service might be interested in acquiring it. But there are also MANY similar domains available for mid XXX to very low XXXX. (I have several myself including expirecatch.com)

Part of the problem with the domain aside from what I've said above - and for you to get more realistic expectations here - is that it is very likely to get confused with end users with dropcatcher.com - which I think is a much better generic even if it is longer. If you go there, it says a service is coming, but without knowing who it is, I am almost certain an end user would approach that owner if they were also interested in dropcatch.

Marketing wise, there are a few things you may want to do. First, when you go to domaintools, it shows the domain is for sale at Godaddy for 10k. I don't really know if that is a good idea unless that is the minimum price you are willing to sell for. ie I know if my budget is 2k for a domain and I see a 10k number there, I won't even bother making an offer.

Second, I'd put something on the landing page you have set up to contact you if they are interested in the domain. Right now, if someone goes there, they might think you have development in progress already.

Third, you can get some additional exposure by getting it listed at Sedo, Moniker, Fabulous and Afternic. You might also want to get an expanded listing at Afternic, although since that is relatively new, I don't know how much that can up the selling price for you.

I didn't say the above to rain on your parade. Hey, if you can get something above low $X,XXX for this domain, more power to you. I'm just trying to offer a realistic perspective here.

High X,XXX for a reseller flip IMHO

A great name that a registrar going into the name dropping business would pay big bucks for. Spend a few bucks and minutes letting evryone you can think of know that it's coming up for sale...you'll start getting offers that go up as time goes by.

You might put it on your own site...and just hold an auction or something...beat snapnames at their own game...and not pay 10% - 20% commissions. Have fun with it, 'cause it sure won't drop in value.
