Has anyone else thought at all about how domains could be related to the Stock Market? I find it intriguing that here we all are investing in domains, trying to figure out which ones are worth something, and how much, and how much we might be able to get out of them.

I own 4 sites, but right now, only my newest site (that's only a few days old) is really geared for making money via advertising, etc... - which I hope to do.

But don't you find it odd and interesting how similar the purchasing of domains is to purchasing stock?

I have thought a lot about this and was thinking about commissioning someone to build some software to reflect domain name sales as different stocks.
For example, if everyone could report the sales they have made and these were entered into a database it would be broadly possible to measure the market as a whole, and then on an extension basis, or a LLL basis and so on.

Optimism in the market would be reflected in increased sales prices as well as the volume of stock traded.

Could be very interesting.

well i always think of domains as stock market because you buy a three letter domain and when the prices go up after a year .. you sell it for more money and make profit :)

Are you thinking of something along the lines of Alexadex.com, just not based on Alexa rating but on something else?
