Domain parking and wordtracker...

Ok, here's a question for those of you who are experienced in the matter:
How many hits does a term need to get on wordtracker, for it to become beneficial to purchase a domain at reg fee and park it?

Suppose there is a band called 'moon marshalls', and the terms 'moon marshals' get 60 hits daily on wordtracker... would that be worth buying the domain moonmarshal.com in order to park it (assuming TD is not an issue)?

It isn't an exact formula because it depends on how much your keyword pays and how well you can get ranked in the search engines for that keyword. If you're on the 132nd page in Google, WordTracker can show 6,000 searches a day and it won't do you any good because nobody will go through 132 pages to get to yours.

NamePros has a great parking section. I would suggest reading around there for a while.

I was thinking more in terms of type-in traffic, which is probably more likely with my given example (a band) than with generic terms.

Ok, two more questions then:

- If the band I was referring to gets 60 daily hits on wordtracker, should I purchase the domain to park it?
- How can a parking page get ranked in the search engines? I thought you couldn't link to parking pages, which surely means it wouldn't even be featured in google, yahoo, etc...

in my experience, if the wordtracker say that the keyword has 200 searches, then u can hope 2 visitor to ur that keyword dot com at max per day.(if u park it, developing is different story)

but well I cant say that every 1 visitor needs 100 searches, there is no exact formula.
it is up to how much competitors in that keyword are as well

Thanks Metronome!

Any answer to the second question?

in my experience wordtracker can be all over the place. it's nice they give you a number, but in some ways i trust google adwords more (google knows what gets typed into google, right?).
for the second question, some parking companies allow linking. mine definitely do not! but i think maybe parked are cool with it. again, check with the parking thread guys

Probably not a bad rule of thumb, but that would be for the .com. If it is some other extension the formula would not work.

pretty basic calculation we need to make for our line of work, don't you think?
ok, here's an idea:
we start a thread, or someone start a page or site (if we need password/privacy), where NPers can add, for each name
- its wordtracker score
- its extension
- if it's indexed, or has a search engine position, to factor in
- and how many uniques they actually get per day
as the list gets bigger and bigger, we can easily crunch all the numbers to post a more and more accurate sample of the actual figure - wordtracker score to uniques expected. it might be 100:1 or 85:1 or 200:1 (from my experience i'd guess as low as 100: 0.4)
any obvious errors in my thinking there?

i guess you wouldn't need to put your actual domain name in, but it might be useful so people can check there's no errors there. some names get more type ins, and some more searches, etc.
