I read microsoft and google transferring and registering domians.

Does it mean microsoft buying domains from previous owners?

Looking over the first few domains mentioned I'd guess they were transfer to microsoft because of trademark reasons or they regged them for use.

If you got a C&D from Mr Gates I'd imagine you'd roll over and play dead for a while
