After a number of strong .sc sales, I recently went out on the proverbial limb and registered my first non-keyword cctld domain... the.sc (the.source)

Since I broke my own rule about registering cctlds (only keywords with ovt > 100,000), was it a good investment or a waste of $?

Well, the decision of it being a waste is entirely up to you. Do you think it is worth at least $30? Do you think you can dev' it?

The Source?

mid $XX

maybe more.

Yes, you need to tell us what do you mean by "The Source"?

I like it myself.

"the source" can mean a lot of things...

1. webmaster tools source
2. gamer cheat code source
3. heck, even "the source" for music and technology news and insight

Let your imagination take you where it took me. If that doesn't work, google "the source" and see the results... all 420 million of them.

Personally I can't see why anybody associates .sc with the term 'source'.

.in - Internet - maybe

.ws - Website - maybe

.bs - Bull~#t - Definately

.sc - Source - Give Me A Break

Even the mighty whois.sc now redirect to DomainTools.com

Well when you type in google "the source" its a very generic term
Anyways, its a good name and needs development at the same time
Good luck with the name!

Well I'm surprised this was available to be honest - almost every other extension is taken, even the obscure ones. Idotz shows the.sh and the.ag, but that's it.

I'd say that as .sc domains go, it's really good. Must be low xxx as it stands, nice catch I reckon.

Radio Shack in Canada also changed their name to The Source. They are now owned by Circuit City.

I like it

whenever you have a common word with a somewhat recognizable extension there is potential, but you must put something there or it wont sell. goodluck.

I saw this a while back but decided against it since I don't have the skills to develop it but the name is just screaming to be developed.

Develop it into "The Source"

Great name! It could be used for a news site.

Not a whole lot of value undeveloped though IMO

I agree, people shouldn't associate .sc with source. It's very annoying.

Needless to say, people still associate .sc with source (at least domainers) because of the former whois.sc. The.sc is a short, easy-to-remember name. Unfortunately, the extension isn't developed enough and too many good words, such as the one you registered, are available, decreasing the value of your domain. Mid-high $xx.

My 500th post :hehe:

I agree with this entirely:
great for use as a source for ANYTHING, absolutely prime name to develop into something substantial and memorable; you'd have to spell it out for people, since - aside from domainers - the 'public' has little to no knowledge of the dot.sc being applied to mean (informally) 'source'; most of them would just look at it and go 'huh?'.
But if you spell it out clearly and advertise/optimize the site well, you could get a lot of traffic started depending on how valuable or entertaining a service you provide.
I don't know a lot about the value of the dot.sc names, though I know a little, and I feel it's of low value undeveloped; but when you throw in their faces that 'the.sc' stands for 'the source', I think it's a very memorable and catchy name.

For those of you that are wondering if .sc domains can be sold undeveloped, within the past 2 weeks I have sold realtor.sc, bingo.sc, and home.sc... all mid to upper $XXX to end users.

Those are nice keywords.

'The' isn't quite as nice as those

When they do a South Carolina spin off of โ€œThe OCโ€ you'll be rich :)

Even if they don't it's certainly worth the 30 bucks.

.sc always means source in my mind, like whois.sc, I like it, always seems some kind of professional, but to be honesty, .sc is not really good for traffic, it always depends on dev...
