I been tracking traffic on all my non profit sites and one in particular is getting about 400 uniques a day. I have decided to develop this site into a forum. My question is what are the alternatives to vbulletin. In other words $160 is kinda steep so I'm looking for someting released under GNU/GPL license. A forum where i can charge for premium members and also the forum $ is really cool. I'm sure I can find some way to earn some income off that Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Any forum you can mod to do what you need. Some have sites that you may be able to find them. I think that I would try invision or yabsee or even phpbb. Those can be modded and I think you may find ready made mods for your needs. I will try to look further.

I use Invision Power Board. It's free and quite popular. Easy to setup and has good Admin control panel. Lots of skins too.
