I have a suggestion. It may seem radical but it will definitely remove unecassary accounts from the namepros. I have been browsing namepros members section and have found that quite a few ppl have 0 posts and have been inactive for a very very long time. It would be better if we clean up the members up here at namepros by removing inactive non-participating 0 posts members.

Thanks.

It is also better if everybody is forced to fill up their profile, bcoz if somebody wants to do business with them, it would be quite handy if the customer knows the buyer a little better firsthand.:tu:

Thank You.:]

I disagree. Some people have zero posts who have only just registered a few days ago. Some, months. Why should someone get their membership deleted just because they don't feel the need to post yet? You're talking about members who have been inactive for a very very long time. So, what about all those users who have been active, but have not been active for a very very long time? I only have 34 posts and don't post often at all, but I do frequent this board very often and buy quite often via pm. So, if I was a member with zero posts and wanted to interact in this community via pms instead of being vocal in threads, then you are suggesting that my account be deleted. That's not good. I suppose I'd have to say "au revoir" to all my friends here.

I don't think posting frequency should be an excuse to delete members. Not only would the action erase useful records of IPs but it would also foolishly erase someone's account who may not have posted for some reason or another. I have friends and family who partake in the online community experience on other boards and some have not posted a single thread yet. When they feel comfortable, they will--or they may not feel comfortable for some time. There may be specific reasons that are unknown for someone that keeps them from posting.

All in all, I think it would be a bad move to delete users who have zero posts. I don't believe erasing someone's membership from existence is what an open forum is all about.

How will this make things better?

I could be wrong, but I think he is saying that it would give a more realistic number of the membership here.

I agree. but you would need to email/PM all the users because some of them might just browse and not post.

In that case, perhaps it would be nicer to have an online stats page of how many members are at each particular rank. So you can see that there are xxx zero-post NPers, xxx newbies, xxx regulars, xxx senior members, etc., and everyone can make their own judgements.

If you really want to delete inactive members, I suggest you email them first. Then delete those whose emails bounce, or do not click on a 'click here to retain your namepros membership' link.

Thankfully it's not a lot, but RJ does continually monitor and then "purge" members that are obvious duplicate accounts, invalid e-mail addresses, even "fake" accounts (for instance, when we neared the 2,000th member mark and way back when domain registrations were briefly offered to new members/referrals). Some of these are less obvious, as well and IP matchings and other controls need to be assessed, etc. We're not going to locate and delete every single one like this (duplicate, what have you) , but we'll come pretty close, IMHO.
As for those members with zero or even few posts activity, whether "older" or newer ... those accounts will NOT be closed/purged. I don't think it's up to us to decide if and when folks wish to post, participate. For whatever reasons (online or offline), they may be less active for a long'ish period of time and then one day wish to again post and become more active at a later time ... and that should be their decision. They still took the interest and initiative to register here and are members, just not actively posting (perhaps compared to some others) ... or doing so only when they deem appropriate.
Nearing 3:00 a.m. EST (not every night) I check the "Number of Active Users Today" at the bottom of the home page (the day "closes" at Midnight PST). Usually always I consistently note between 195 - 215 ... with "Most users ever online on a day was 222 on 09-23-2003." These overall numbers are up substantially since July/August! :tu:
Remember, also ... the default Titles (based solely on the number of posts) don't always tell the whole story about any one particular User. Given the relative age and evolution of the Namepros site, it would be possible (I'd say, likely) to meet more experienced domainer friends whilst participating in the "community" but who just recently found us and have either "Newbie" or "Member" or "Regular" Titles (again, based on their post counts). In this light, it may be a bit unfair to list any member(s) based solely on this post "ranking" ... though, as Armstrong has suggested, perhaps a number of members at any particular post "rank".
Just my two sense, thanks for the comments and suggestions. :)
B-)
