Well, I would definitely go with XAMPP. I have it installed on 3 of my computers, and it works wonders, with a simple GUI interface, or the console versions if you wish to use them. It comes with a lot of extras that do not take up a lot of space and are not required to run.

This is an excerpt from the XAMPP website:
XAMPP for Windows said:
The distribution for Windows 98, NT, 2000 and XP. This version contains: Apache, MySQL, PHP + PEAR, Perl, mod_php, mod_perl, mod_ssl, OpenSSL, phpMyAdmin, Webalizer, Mercury Mail Transport System for Win32 and NetWare Systems v3.32, JpGraph, FileZilla FTP Server, mcrypt, eAccelerator, SQLite, and WEB-DAV + mod_auth_mysql.
Don't fear - There are Linux, Mac and Solaris versions as well.

I'd wish you luck, but none is needed as setting up the software is a complete breeze:p
