Anyone here get creative with their replies to lowballers?

Got this today:
Hi,
I do offer you $500 for LO3.com and GameTour.com domains.

Here was my reply:

Wow that's an awesome offer. It's hard to say no but jeez I have to. You see...the other day I had a bear come up to me and speak to me in a whisper. The bear said "Don't sell your domains too cheaply". So taking the bears advice I am going to have to ask for more than $500. I can sell GameTour.com for $15,000. I can sell lo3.com for $1500.

btw...that bear also told me that people who spam me with lowball offers are complete assholes. Not sure why the bear would tell me this but I figured I should tell you since the bear might be telling others the same thing.

If you ever want to meet my bear friend let me know. He likes to eat salmon a lot and can drink beer like no one else I know. Really great bear to have at parties.

Thanks.

hehe

Actually that wasn't his reply.

Go tell your bear to update the price right here :
http://www.sedo.com/search/details.php4?domain=lo3.com&tracked=&partnerid=&language=us

After you do that ask him why is he only talking with assholes ? :)

Good Luck.

He was right ...at Sedo the previous owner had this still listed. We all know Sedo and their poor policy on domains not being in the actual owners accounts. They just don't ever erase them or check for whois periodically.

I added it my own account though so I can price it correctly ($1500).

And people that are serious bidders don't lowball. They either don't say a price or start someone in the reasonable range. Gametour.com is one of my earliest sites. It has 8 DMOZ listings for the one site. It's been a registration since 1998. I actually placed about $25,000 in the first 3 years before I closed my retail business in video games. I probably should have kept it going but at the time no funds were available.

Obviously this guy is a serious bargain hunter. I got money he is a member here too. Anyone know a Remus G.?

Weekly headache... ppl emailing me thinking I am going to give my prem. domains away for a tank of gas.... I guess if you send out enough emails you might get someone to agree... Just let them know, its not actively for sale, and it would take a considerable # for you to sell, and your willing to hear out offers... good day.....

I get so many of these requests that I had to resort to a form letter response many years ago:

Thank you for your interest in purchasing *.com! Although we have paid registry fees far into the future, and list the domain as not for sale on the website, we do occasionally hear from those wishing to purchase the domain. While we do not offer outright sale of the domain name, we do offer partial ownership and interest that is renewable on an annual basis, subject to change in terms and review. We think you will agree that these terms are generous, and we do hope to hear back from you, and appreciate your interest in owning the domain. Our current asking price is $300,000,000,000,000.00 US (three hundred trillion U.S. dollars) for 1% ownership for a period of one year. Of course we would not allow a 1% owner to have any significant say on site content, but we would allow a 1% owner to have a small text-only link at the bottom of our main page pointing to you or your customer as a valued contributor. The text-only link should not exceed 10 words or 50 standard ASCII characters of text description (including spaces). The link is limited to 5 words or 20 standard ASCII characters for the link title (including spaces), and is subject to our approval of link content. The linked site is also subject to our terms of service for website content.

But wait, there is more!!! If your payment is made in full within the next 7 (seven) days, we will also include a free oven mitt at no extra charge, a $1.50 value that is yours for FREE if you act quickly! Imagine the many hours of pleasure using your free oven mitt, and showing your friends the text-only link at the bottom of our page that points to your web page!!!

Ouch! That hurts! How many times have you reached into a hot oven and pulled out your oven rack with your bare hands only to burn yourself? Many people do not know that there is a simple cure for this painful problem! An oven mitt is a device used to insulate your hands from hot items that you would like to touch. It fits right over your hand like a glove, but unlike a glove, is specially designed to protect you from heat. Our oven mitt is a one-size-fits-all design, and works on either your right or left hand! Yes, that's right, it is designed to fit on either hand, which SAVES YOU MONEY, since you don't have to buy separate oven mitts for your right and left hands. Imagine no more burnt fingers from reaching into a hot oven with your bare hands! It is yours FREE (without warranty) with the purchase of partial membership in *.com. A small shipping and handling charge of $1,000,000 (one million U.S. Dollars) will be applied for the oven mitt to be carefully packed and shipped by low priority third class mail, and must be paid in advance. Extra charges apply for priority shipping. For protection, your oven mitt comes in a zip-lock bag, wrapped in bubble wrap, and includes a lovely gift card so you can give your oven mitt to a friend. The free oven mitt offer is only good while supplies last, so hurry!

The oven mitt is also carefully packed in a box of "static-free foam peanuts". Don't you just hate those cheap packing peanuts that stick to you? These packing peanuts are carefully chosen to partially eliminate this annoying problem of static cling... again another courtesy from our staff to you if you respond now to this exciting offer. We would like to caution you, however, that the packing peanuts are not intended for human consumption, so please do not eat the packing peanuts!

The text-only link offer is subject to our usual terms of service. Both the text link content and the content of your website must meet our publication guidelines. This offer is void where prohibited by law. Offer good on static-free peanuts while supplies last, otherwise we will ship your oven mitt with those lousy static peanuts that cling to you.

Act quickly, because an offer like this will not last!
