Crap costing thousands

Does anybody else laugh when they see some of the prices people are asking for domains? I'm no expert, but seen some right crap on offer lately for xxxx+ Domains, I wouldn't pay x for!

Is it just me who gets a chuckle out of seeing these?

It only bothers me on the forum. Amongst peers. Like why try and sell a fresh hand reg on here for 10k or 100k like come on. I dont care about when it's in a marketplace and they are up with the hail Mary. That's ok imo but let me stop here I don't want another article written about my thoughts.

Making multiple topics for half baked domains that are not worth more than ten bucks and then repeatedly bumping them, all the while not taking advice from members, deserves to be picked on.

Unlike your .top scenario which is not a comparable situation because something like one.top could be worth quite a bit but crappy .com's that would not ordinarily sell for a few hundred bucks don't magically become million dollar domains just because one keeps repeatedly bumping them.

Oh that story was about crappy .com name(s)? I was thinking you were speaking about .company extension domain names...my bad then

But seriously, I hate discouraging or putting down another members (the following remark is general, it is not pointed towards you ) .. it is my observation that if one have a need to criticize or discourage or laught on others, it is usually a sign that one is not satisfied with himself/herself..if you are happy, you like others to be happy as well.

I would be also very careful to listen "experts" here: for example, I remember year ago or so, there was a member with veeeery long .top domain name, I am sure everyone knows who I am speaking about...he got lot of heat for his passion for .top, and we now learn that this extension sells surprisingly well in China for large amounts of money almost every day (check namebio). I have not read one comment here which would indicate such development, only this member was basically spot on...

Oh, trust me he was not banned for flogging .top's, he was banned for spamming people via pm and email.

He tried incessantly to sell the same domains and polluted virtually every topic with the same advertisements for his domains. He tried to sell me maple.rocks and it just went on and on even though I made it clear I was not interested. That was minor compared to what he and his brother did via email. The constant emails did not stop and there are a few choice members that simply don't understand that no means no.

It has nothing to do with what they are selling and more to do with HOW they are selling.
They beat the same horse in every topic, pm, and email it gets old pretty fast.

Honestly just seems like a thread to whine, while I do sit and laugh when I see domains being set at such a high value - it does no harm.

Problem can be overcome if a “Verified Sellers” section was added, and only certain members could create a thread, others can only comment. Then you’d get people wanting to be sensible so they can get access and post a decent price.

Plus we’re all here to want a good price for the domains we treasure (because I damn do), and hearing about other domain sales makes you wonder “why won’t mine?”.

Many tend to get in love with their own names, almost as if they were their children. This makes them overrate the value of their names.

Personally, I have no other income than from domains and web development, so I have to balance it up between maximize profit and being realistic. This is a pretty hard task.

I think that ridiculous prices on domains listed publicly (i.e. outside NPs) do hurt the industry as a whole. I think occasionally an end user starts searching, comes across a few ridiculous prices, assume that most will be that order and simply gives up finding the best hand registration for their startup or business/organization. It would be tough, but the marketplaces could if they wanted to put the resources into it have an approval process for prices, sort of like some brand sites do.

I realize domain name pricing is not an exact science, and some find it a good strategy to start very high, but I think truly crazy pricing hurts us all.
