hi
recently i bought an expired domain via clubdrop. the domain had 200-300 daily traffic and somewhile after i decided to sell it and let it a buyer test the traffic but after 3 days he said that the domain was a virus and no real traffic and no clicks but i had some clicks in sedo and domainhop no doubt
now i want to ask:is it possible that a domain be a virus?!and all the traffic that generates be fake?

A domain itself cannot be a virus, but a script running on the domain can approximate one. If you've moved the domain to a new DNS or server with new files this shouldn't be a problem -- check what files are running on the site and look where your traffic is coming from. Also, you can check the blacklist status at whois.sc -- rF :tu:

a domain definitely cannot be a virus. maybe you should have taken a screenshot of your stats as evidence before you sold the domain.

Yeah, only the scripts running on a domain can be a virus... but then again... there is a possibility for a virus to mutate into anything now...

it could never be a virus but the page that the doamin runs could have a bad script

this domain before expiration was a website(japanese i think) lets suppose that the website was contain of some virus scripts does it mean that the traffic is unreal and fake?
i moved it again to domainhop today and i had some hotlink pop-up views no fake traffic would visit popups for sure
the final point is:can i sell it as a traffic domain due to domainhop's monthly revenue (1$ per day in the averag) or not?
thanks

there is no such thing as fake traffic, if you worried that the website contains some sort of virus then change the name servers so that they no longer point at the original page

to be honest it sounds like the guy who bought the domain from you was pretty clueless

The old website might have purchased traffic and after you bought it, that service might have stopped. Or the other case is that the old site does have virus in it and infect viewers and thus, you will see substantial re-visiting viewers. A virus needs a host/medium to infect (example, .exe files, .jpg files). A domain name is simply a name to a site for easier recognition. The best way to sell the domain is to have it based on traffic stats like you've done with domainhop's stats. I feel that this is the most honest way.

i have not sold the domain yet i will never sell a domain which the buyer after deal thinks that he is cheated
i test the domain's traffic both in sedo and domainhop and results were close good traffic and low CTR
so with screencaptures from my sedo and domainhop traffic stats could i sell it as a traffic domain?

It sounds like hes trying to scam you, if its earning a $1/day PPC its worth alot more than $50.

If the domain has traffic and the CTR looks normal then yes you can sell it as a traffic domain.

Not relating to this particular situation, but...

Yes, there is such a thing. There are many different ways to produce "fake" traffic and statistics by using bots, scripts, proxies (etc.) and unfortunately it's not that uncommon these days.

yeah but its still traffic, it still counts as a hit on the website

I don't get your point. First you said there was no such thing as fake traffic, but clearly there is. Now you are saying that fake traffic is still traffic, but the fact is that fake traffic is worthless. It's not real, and it doesn't count, unless somebody is being dishonest and trying to cheat/scam a potential buyer.

Also, a "hit" is not the same as a visitor. A single visitor can produce countless hits by visiting the site only once. "Unique" visitors is the statistic that really counts.

-DB- i had the same problem but with a little help i soon realised that VISITORS is the real traffic. The hits is how many times the users computer hits the server for information. 1 user can claim 40 hits if 1 page has 40 Images on it.

TEST.GIF
TEST2.GIF
TEST6.GIF

that would class as 3 Hits.

Exactly. :)

well it depends on your definition of traffic. Technically the term traffic refers to communication between computers. So a hit would be classified as traffic.

Say if someone steals your credit card and makes a transaction. That transaction is illegal but it is still a real transaction.

I agree that i would be dishonest to generate fraudulant traiffic and use this as a criteria for selling a site.
