.com.xx OR .xx ??

Hi

1/ What is the difference between eg. .com.pl and .pl ?
(or .com.cn or .cn etc..)
Spare the cheap laugh "the difference is a 'com' "

2/ which one is theoretically more "valuable" to own?

3/ will they (the country reg) be phasing out the .com.xx anytime soon or merge ? (maybe heard this from somewhere..)

4/ why do some countries eg. Germany only have the .de (and not ".com.de")

5/ feel free to expand the discussion...

2. I myself would not want any domain with 2 dots at the end.

3. Probably not very likely.

4. The extension was not approved by ICANN or no registrar has applied for that extension.

While most domainers instinctively favor the .xx over the .com.xx, value depends on what is locally acceptable. In some countries, while .xx is available, locals still prefer .com.xx simply because they are more recognizable.

how about just .uk ?? i see lots of .com.uk or .me.uk but no .uk domains, whats up with that??

well in uk we mostly use CO.UK and not many people know about me.uk etc...

I would have to agree that some people in countries dont know about abbrevated domain names like .me.uk, but as for the value of .com's or .com.pl for example, .com's would probably be worth more since it is global instead of local.
