I believe only short and easy-to-remember domain names are sustainable, regardless of where in the world you live and which cultural background you come from.

Now that the Chinese domain market has become a hot topic, I myself want to understand this trend too. Is there any real meaning behind each domain name sold in China? Here, I'd like to share with you what I've found as I read the Chinese news everyday.

GZX.com
GZX can stand for 更自信 (even more self-confident) which can be used in many fields such as education, self-help, and even consumer products to raise your self image.

XLY.com
XLY can stand for 夏令营 (summer camp) or 新领域 (new field) which can be used in recreation and high-tech products.

GoDaddyGoDaddy
E-commerce site selling booze. 9=Wine
I've also seen quite a few LLL9 .com names selling wine in China where 9 is used to rhyme with "wine".

Chinese Domain News

5TV, video platform known for creative production, received Series A funding recently. Official website is 5tv.com. 5 rhymes with 我 (me) so 5TV implies original TV shows for "me". >>

.cn is No 2 in ccTLD behind .tk. See http://www.verisign.com/assets/domain-name-report-july2016.pdf. Considering genuine end user demand, .cn will take over .tk to become No. 1 in ccTLD in due time. >>

2110.com sold for $25k (165k yuan) in July 20 auction. 2110 rhymes with 爱依依你 (love to rely on you). >>

LL + English may work. Tour operator 梦想 (Meng Xiang) just received $6m (40m yuan) funding to expand its tour business. Official website is on MXtrip.cn. >>

Hey kassey, how are .wang and .win doing in china?
You can use Namestat.org to compare their registrations with other new extensions and see whether they are popular.

What I wanted to edit was, if you think its worth regging/buying LLL.wangs?
They are short, so maybe. I am the worst domain appraiser in the world so I don't know their values.

I would urge all interested in Chinese domains to sign up
Thanks for the kind words. Yes, questions are welcome but please don't ask me to appraise domain names, for the reason stated earlier.

I received an offer for "ff.ma" @ 4.cn, does ff or ffma have any meaning in China?
FF may mean 发发 (make a fortune) but I have not come across the .ma extension until now, so no idea about it.

Will number 82 or 28 have any significance in China?
I have 8282 and 8228 in .ch and just checking which market should I target
82 rhymes with 不饿 (not hungry) and 28 rhymes with 爱发 (love to make a fortune)

Lian.com sold for $623k (4.15m yuan) in July 21 auction. CC.cn sold recently for low 6 figures (low 7 figures yuan). CC may mean 吃穿 (eat and wear), 出差 (business trip), or财产 (wealth). >>

5N .com selling well. Domain investor Aqiang (啊强=nickname) recently sold fifty 5N .com in bulk transaction for more than $300k (2m yuan). In separate transactions, 66613.com and 88910.com also sold for more than $15k (100k yuan) each. >>

Hey Kassey,

how do I find out what 2 letters and 2 numbers mean in chinese? Like, how did you find out that QM32 means dropcatching love each other? I am asking because i have found some NNLL domains without aeiouv04 and would like to know what meaning they have before regging them.

Also, does NNLL have less value for chinese than LLNN or doesnt it matter if it begins with numbers or letters?

3C warehousing strategy by Hao Nan CHEN continues. Chen recently bought two more 3C domain names: u53.com and j26.com. Prices unknwon. Warehouseing is a strategy by big investors collecting a large number of same type of domain names. (For more info on Chen, see my post coreile.com/p160702) >>

Short clip of Frank Schilling during World Domain Conference in China recently. He said, "We look forward to being licensed later this year to sell .link and .click and .mom and .lol here in China." Wenhouka.com Just got this name -it's a long term hold for us.
问候卡 (Wen Hou Ka = greeting card) 3-pin. So it is a real term, but both Wenhouka.cn and Wenhouka.com.cn are not registered yet, according to my Whois check. Baidu search has not revealed any domain name with similar names. 生日卡 (birthday card) has 720k Baidu results and 问候卡 (greeting card) 127k. Detailed research may reveal the reason.

the fellow asked if we had any ".vc" NN or LL names.
Yes, .vc is good for those in the VC business. One famous example is China.vc as covered in my Feb 22 post.
