What is currently the cheapest place to reg domains? Yahoo has them for $2.99 but only for new customers.

AfternicAfternic
namecheap.com for me.

namecheap.com
godaddy.com
registerfly.com (not recommended, though)

If you buy any cheaper than these places offer, you most likely lose functionality.

Yahoo and a few others are cheapest but pay a little more and go for a reliable registrar. I would suggest Namecheap and GoDaddy.

the most reliable domainsite and namecheap

yahoo does offer it for 2.99 but you can't push it and other stuff

domainsite.com

They are definately one of the cheapest, and very reliable.

namecheap.com

They are great too, and quite cheap too. The domains come with free WhoisGuard.

What do you mean by 'Push'? I have transferred domains from Yahoo no problem.

Really? Admittedly i have never bought a domain from Yahoo but everyone else here at NP that did and posted about it says that you cannot transfer domains from Yahoo to another registrar when you buy a $2.99 yahoo domain. I tend to believe all of them since there would be no reason for them to lie. Afterall, you do get what you pay for. There is no way they could sell domains for so low and give you all the functionality you get with the other registrars like godaddy, namecheap, et al.

When you say you have transferred domains out of Yahoo with no problems, were these domains you paid only $2.99 for or did you pay regular price? I think that the limited functionality only applies to $2.99 domains. BUt then, I did not know that Yahoo sold domains for regular prices.

"Push" simply means to "transfer" the domain from one account to another but within the same registrar. So if I sell a domain to you and I regged it at godaddy, then I would "push" it from my godaddy account to your own godaddy account once you paid me for it.

When you sell a domain, you never want to be involved in the transfer from your regsitrar to their registrar. It opens you up to fraud. Instead, you tell your buyer to set up a free account at the registrar where your domain is registered (if he already doesn't have one) and then "push" the domain to his account. Leave it to the buyer to transfer out to another registrar if that is what he wants to do.

Even though Yahoo says this somewhere , after some careful research it says this somewhere else . Alternatively , you can go to YahooSmallBusiness help and search for "transfer" in the "Domains" category (4th and 5th result) .

Don't forget Yahoo is a reseller of domains (the actual registrar is MelbourneIT.com) . And that the $2.99 offer is valid only for one domain per customer .

Try googling or yahooing the word "domain" ... there is an offer for $6.95 domains from GoDaddy right at the top (unlimited amount) .

Furthermore , after an email question regarding the transferring of a .co.uk domain to a new registrant , I got a reply from GoDaddy customer service today stating ... "Any domain name you have registered with GoDaddy.com can be moved to any other customer account in our system. There is no charge for this process." . That means someone can transfer a .co.uk domain to a new registrant without following the standard Nominet procedure with the mailing of forms .

NameCheap is my favorite, and is the easiest :imho:

If you use the "evenlower" promo code, you can get domains for $7.99 ;)

I'm on dialup, so GoDaddy (my #2 choice) takes a long time to load and such. NameCheap loads almost instantly for me.

Also everything seems instant at NC. When I reg a domain, it's already up, running, and pointing to my servers in no time at all.

Just my personal favorite.

Well if you look at namecheap's checkout and then look at Godaddy's checkout, that alone makes namecheap "easier" per se. Godaddy's checkout is a real pain in the arse. I don't like their control panel either, but then I think that Namecheap's control panel isn't the greatest either. But better than godaddy's IMHO.

Also, don't forget that there is a bogus ICANN fee added to all domain purchses with Godaddy. I say bogus because there really is no need to charge that separately. It's just a marketing gimmick to not include it in the price.

And BTW, domains are not usually $6.19 at GD. You can get those prices by using different promotions but Gd's regular price per domain is $8.95 + 25 cent ICANN fee which = $9.20.

Namecheap's regular price is $8.88 total + you get free whois guard for 1 year. You don't have to use that whois guard on that domain you purchase. You can jsut hold it and use it on other NC regged domains if you wish.
